Manipulating, representing and abstracting in mathematical situations in nursery school, with the help of verbalisationThese were the topics covered during a training session at the Lycée Français de Berlinon 12 and 13 December, hosted by Sophie ThuillierCPAIEN in the ZECO-AEFE, and by Yasmina BoudjatitEMFE for the zone.
The development of early mathematical skills is one of the main aims of nursery school teaching. This structured teaching is provided through play, manipulating objects and solving problems. Language plays a key role in gradually leading young pupils towards abstraction.
As recommended in the curricula, the aim is for pupils to learn :
⏩ playing
⏩ thinking and solving problems
⏩ practising
⏩ by remembering and memorising.
